Mosquito-borne Virus Information

What diseases can I get from the mosquitoes in Fresno County?

In Fresno County, West Nile and St. Louis Encephalitis viruses are transmitted by Culex mosquitoes each year.  These diseases can start to circulate in the local mosquito population when our average daily temperatures reach 75 degrees Fahrenheit.  At this time, the bite of an infected Culex mosquito could transmit these viruses and make a person sick.  These viruses are not transmitted by an Aedes aegypti mosquito bite.

Below are the common symptoms that can occur when a person has been infected with West Nile or St. Louis Encephalitis virus.
